This week is the last week of class. I feel sad that this is going to be my last post this semester. I studied various English related subjects such as the history of English, English 1, Understanding English education and etc. I feel like I have progressed in my English ability over the past sememster and really improved especially on my writing skills. I hope that my English ability will continuously enhance in the near futuer and on.

Week 11!!

This week was so interesting!! First, we studied Renaissance in History of English. It was difficult for me, but awesome!! Second, we learned useful English expressions in English 1 class. There are so many funny expressions!! Third, we learned literatures of English in The Understanding of English Education. Espacially, Poems was so impressive!! Fourth, we studied how to write controversial paragraph in English composition class. Lastly, we learned how to do English presentation in English conversation class. Eventually, I'll study harder, and get a good grade in next final exam!

I think friends like Beth make it harder for you.
Both giving and not giving Beth the answers seems like a bad choice.

YOUTUBE

This week I watched several video clips in English from Youtube. Firstly, I watched JKNews, which were ridiculously funny as always. This weeks news included a boy who got detentions from the school because he asked Ms. America out for prom. The news itself is absurd as always but what gets me hackled up is the comments that the JKNews crew throws at each other about the news. Also, I watched a couple clips from Clothesencounters. Jenn, the protagonist of the channel went to Cochela which is a kind of music festival in the states. She looks great in the clothes she picks for herself. And her friend also looked super cool in the video too.

I feel like watching these videos keeps me in touch with the native English, so that I don't loose track of the intonation or pronunciation.

This clip from TED talks about a cartoonist that illustrates about scientific things. For example, if a baseball were to fly at 90% of the speed of light in a statidum, the result would be that the city in whish the stadium is sitted would explode and that you would see a mushroom cloud. He also estimated the number of google operation centers, whish is one of the top secrets of Google. He likes doing this kind of math which is not math for its own sake but one which we get to learn something through it. It was an inspiring message for me, one that I feel like made me not hate math as much as I had used to before watching this clip.
This week, I continued to get back on the track with my English studies. Because of finals, I was laid back on my studies. I started to memorize 15 words a day to enhance my vobabulary. I really think that my vocabulary is one of the weekest parts of my English. It's an area where the quantity of the time you put in is the key determiner. So it really shows how much work you have put into it. That's why I think it is so important. A little bit of complex vocabularies can go a long way in making good impressions.
Mobile Learning Feedback at Blogger

Hello! My name is Shin Hae Yoon. Shin is my last name and Hae Yoon is my first name. I also go by my English name which is Judy, but I prefer my Korean name because I think it's more special! I was born on November 1st 1995 to my two loving parents. I was the first child in my family and so my dad and my mom were very happy. They say that I was a healthy baby and that I slept and ate better and more than any other kids in the same hospital. Then 3 years later my younger brother was born! We used to fight a lot when we were little but now, we’re getting along quite well. I think it was about when I entered middle school that I started to become more close to him rather than to treat him as an enemy. Even nowadays we would watch football or movies together, areas which we are both interested in. Our family was finally completed 2 years ago when Richy came to our house. Richy is a brown, furry poodle that was given to me as a belated birthday present from my parents. She loves sleeping and eating just like me and we go out for walks very often. She is very smart so she knows tons of tricks. Her favourite treat, as predicted by how desperate she is to have the treat, is probably half dried half moist chicken breast. I've always wanted a dog so I love her so much! Anyways, that makes the five of us, our family.

I was born in Seoul Korea and that's where I lived the majority of my life in. But when I was 6 years old, I moved to the outer area of Seoul, Gyeong-gi-do and attend Hwajung primary school. I was always an energetic extrovert so I rarely studied. Instead I would run around and play outside all the time. Because gyeong-gi-do was sitted in the outer area of Seoul, there were lots of parks with trees and flowers that my friends and I could run around. I would spend the typical day in one of those parks with my friends to play hide and seek or tag. I was definitely a tomboy. I fell down and scratched my arms and legs very often so my parents worried a lot. They hoped that I would do something calm like playing the piano or playing with dolls. I never met my parents expectations as a kid but I was always happy.

Then 3 years later, my family moved to Singapore because of my father's job. I went to the Canadian International School there. At first it was terrible because I couldn’t speak any English. I was never a scholastic kid back in Korea, so my English was very poor even as a non native student. I only knew basic words like dog and cat. I didn’t even know how to introduce myself. So, I naturally became a Asian stereotype: Timid and speechless. But as time passed by, I eventually learned English and made lots of friends, which allowed me to learn English even faster and make more friends and this cycle continued. So Singapore is where I learned a lot of the English I can speak now. Besides that it was such a life changing experience for me. Going to an international school in such a multicultural country exposed me to diverse opportunities to encounter “difference” and “new”. I experienced so many different cultures and religions. It was like being in 4 and even more different countries all at the same time. I learned to be open minded and interest in learning different languages. I would love to go back there one day.

Like I mentioned in the previous page, I have been influenced a lot by the experiences of being in Singapore. First of all, my interest in language has grown tremendously. Because there were people from many different countries, we all spoke different languages. I listened to a lot of those that I wouldn’t have heard until I was older if I had lived in Korea. Different languages had different accents and pronunciations. For example, I always thought that Spanish and French sounded so romantic and exotic. Ever since hearing those two languages, I have always wanted to learn those two languages. And I plan on taking action. I started learning French this year at an institution called Alliance Francaise. When I get used to speaking in French, I hope that I will also learn Spanish. Secondly, it has changed my appetite completely. One of the biggest merits of living in Singapore was that there were so many different dishes available and affordable prices. One of my favourite dishes was Tika Masala, or Indian curry. I loved having this dish with a type of bread called nan. I enjoy this meal even till today. As for dessert, I love Ice Kachange which is similar to Korea’s PAtBingSu.

So this is it for my story and I hope you guys got to know me a little better. Bye!

This week, I continued to study for my mid-term exam. There were a lot of English-related studying going on since I am an English major. First, I learned about ancient alphabets and how they were pronounced, grammar and vocabularies. I feel blessed to have been born in the 1990's because I found the ancient English very hard. There are wierd looking alphabets I can not comprehend and the grammar rules are more complicated than English spoken today. Also, I studied the pattern of second language acquisition. It was interesting to see all the theories related to it. I felt like all of them had both positive and negative sides to them. As a person who is currently learning French, it was interesting and helpful to see those theories. Also, I was involved in the film project to check other people's etiquette. A lot of people were very nice in the experiements, although we secrelty and purposefully dropped things infront of them. It felt really good to know that the world is still a nice place to live in.

I had to start preparing for my mid-term exams this week, so I didn't do any additional English studying! Instead, I needed to study English for my mid-terms since I am majoring in English education. This week, we learned about the processes babies and infants go through in acquiring their first language as well as second language. There are mainly three positions that linguists hold. The behaviorism perspective, the innatist perspective and the cognitive/developmental persepective. I personally agree with the cognitive/developmental perspective since it hold a very netural point of view that's inbetween the other two perspectives. It is truly amazing how children very naturally learn language or even languages. I don't remember how I learned language myself which is so amazing consider how hard a time I had when I learned English. Anyways, I hope to understand and memorize succesfully and to get a good grade in the mid term exams.

This week I decided to study some vocabs instead of finding new youtube videos. That's because I felt the need to enhance my vocabulary this week ever since I started to read the book "The Tipping Point". I thought the book was interesting and bought it last week end but I couldn't get through the book as fast as I wanted to because I needed to continuously look up the dictionary. This annoyed me very much and I was also disappointed at myself for having such a poor level of vocabulary.

In order to solve this problem and to read what I want to, I decided to take a new approach. I looked up several vocabularies that reappeared many times in the book. I made list of those vocabs and reviewed them once I finished reading 20 pages every day. I did this for the past 10 days and the result was satisfactory. Althugh it was only a few more days than a week, I have now learned more than 200 words. 200 words may be big or small in quantity but what I am certain of is that it definitely helped me speed up my reading speed. I now don't search the dictionary as often as I used to before I started doing this! Increadible what 10 days can do to you!

So now, I plan on doing this continuously until I gain enough confidence in my vocab. I also plan on utilizing the "Quizlet" more often!

This week, I found another channel on youtube by a girl called Bethay Mota. She is 18, just like me but she is very famous and has more subscribers than lady gaga! Basically, she touches on a lot of areas such as DIY, fashion, hair, makeup and hauls. She has a lot of talent as can be seen by the things that she makes in her videos.

I love her because she is creative and inspiring. In one of her videos she said that she used to be a timid and shy kid, who even got bullied a lot. In her first dozen videos, you can tell that this is true from the way she talks and eye-contacts with the camera. However, you can feel her confidence and bubbly personality in her newest videos. She makes people watching her videos smile with her as they watch her videos. I think she is indeed a "MOTAvator".

She has come a long way since she first started the video and finally, she got to launch her own clothing line at Aeropostal. They were a hit and people did so many hauls on her clothes too. Although I don't know her in person, it felt good that someone as talented and hard working as her got to achieve a goal of many girls' dreams.

This week, I decided to check out some more chanels on youtube to enhance my understanding of English. Besides "Justkidding News", I am now subscribed to "Clothesencounters".

"Clothesencounters" is a channel that is uploaded by a girl named Jenn Im. She is an American-Korean who looks Korean but can barely speak any Korean. She has a great sense of fashion and I love how bold she is with the styles that she tries on. She really seems to enjoy what she does. In one of her videos she mentions that "it doesn't matter what people think about you, but that you are happy and comfortable with what you are in". I definitely agree with what she said and think that it's a good lesson that I've learned from watching her videos. I also love her smile and her hair. As I saw the older videos, I saw that she lost weight and learned to find out hair and clothes that suits her better.

Besides her lovely appearance and her fashion style, she is also smart. She uses a wide range of vocabulary which allows me to learn uncolloquial words, unlike many others youtubers who use everyday language, which doesn't help me enhance my English that much. She has also graduated from UC Davis, where I would love to stay at too.

I love her videos because she has a contagious smile and confidence. Her positive energy springs out of her makes me positive too. I think I can learn not only English but a lot from her.

Today I watched a video from a channel called "JuskKiddingNews" on youtube.
JustKiddingNews is a channel on youtube which uploads a 8-10minute-video every 3-4 days.
In the video, 6 people talk about a few news which is usually absurd or heart-warming.
Since their English is usually slang, I think that it's very helpful to me in getting to know the real English people use in the US, especially in California.
I think it's a great way to spend time because I can keep up my listening skills and have fun at the same time.

In the video that I watched today, the topic was a new about how a mother hid her handgun in her daughter's backpack.
The news itself was insane, yet the way the guys talk about it in the video makes me laugh so much!
I had such a fun time watching this video and I think that I did indeed enhance my listening skills through watching this video clip.

My name is Shin Hae Yoon and I am majoring in English education at Chung-ang university.
I am currently taking "ICT and Autonomy in Language" in order to learn how to use computers effectively in English education.

One of the most important values I have is to have fun! Whatever I am doing, I always make sure that it contributes to my happiness in some way.
I love chilling out whenever I have free time. Sometimes, I would watch soccer or play saxophone.
I am also very interested in language in general, so I started learning French this March.

In addition to my three family members, my mom, my dad and my younger brother, I keep a dog at home. Her name is "Lichee" and she is a poodle with brown fur. She loves running around the house and sniffing new things. She is a year and a half years old now.
